Some luxury cars come with pre-installed heated car seats. However, it is not necessary that you spend a fortune on a premium car to avail of this luxury. The heated carseats are also available individually that can be later installed to your regular car seat.

The modus operandi of a heated car seat is similar to that of an electric blanket. The car seat typically is covered with a fabric composed of three plies. The middle ply, made out of uninflammable gauze, consists of the heating wires. These wires are spread across the backrest and the bottom seat to ensure uniform warmth across the body. The wires are arranged in a radial manner to ensure no breakage irrespective of any stretching, weight load or any other movement. The outer ply ensures that the heat emitted by the wires is passed on to the person sitting on the seat.

For cars that come with pre-installed heated car seats are connected to the car’s battery directly and in cars where the heated carseats are installed later, an external cord is provided which connects to the cigarette lighter. It also comes with the heat controls that have different levels of settings from high to low so that the driver can adjust the temperature and warmth based on his or her requirements. Some of them have an in-built thermostat that adjusts the level of heat dissipated based on the temperature within the car. Typically, the levels of temperature can go up to 120 Fahrenheit and some of them even go up to 150 Fahrenheit.

Search online and you will find a number of stores offering heated car seats of different brands. Irrespective of the brand, ensure that the car seat fabric is of high quality and check if it has passed and also has a compliance certificate from the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Most of these car seats come in fabrics that are pretty much similar to the automotive upholstery. Standard color is black and some brands do offer a choice of more colors.

Recently, findings of a certain study on the effect of heated car seats on fertility, conducted by Dr. Andreas Jung, Germany, have been making circulation in journals, newspapers and the Internet. As per this research, 90 minutes of sitting on the warm car seat may lead to a rise in the scrotal temperature of the male gender.

This rise in temperature can affect the quality of the semen or the sperm, thus affecting the male gender’s facility as well. However, Dr. Andreas Jung himself states that it is too early to come to any specific conclusions as it does not require just a heated car seat to increase the scrotal temperature. Sitting anywhere for a long time can lead to an increase in the scrotal temperature of a man and the effect of sitting on a heated car seat is less harmful than prolonged sedentary periods.

Irrespective of the above research findings, heated car seat sales have been on a rise. And people who have bought these types of car seats and experienced the luxury do not hesitate to acknowledge the warmth and coziness that this simple car accessory brings in to their lives.
